According to local media and Algeria official communiqué, as the first country to implement import and production restrictions on diesel passenger cars in the Arab and African regions, Algeria recently officially issued new regulations to further tighten access policies related to diesel vehicles, aiming to promote environmental protection transformation. According to the operating specifications document for automobile manufacturers and dealers issued by the Official Gazette No. 76 of Algeria, the country hasofficially banned authorized dealers from importing diesel-powered passenger cars, and has also not allowed local companies to start production of diesel passenger cars. Regarding personal imports, the policy is clear.Diesel used cars less than 3 years old are also included in the import ban list.

The new regulations clearly define the types of energy that can be imported, and only allow dealers to introduce gasoline, electric, hydrogen energy, oil-electric hybrid, gasoline-hydrogen hybrid, and vehicles driven by liquefied petroleum gas/compressed natural gas or compatible with relevant fuels. Vehicle emissions must comply with current local regulations and standards. APOCE, a consumer protection organization in Algeria, also added that the ban is only for diesel passenger cars, and commercial diesel vehicles are not within the restrictions. It also clarifiesthat the criterion for judging new cars is that the mileage is less than 100 kilometers, not the 1000 kilometers circulated in the market.

It is worth noting that this ban does not completely block all import channels for diesel passenger cars. The regulations donot prohibit individuals from importing new diesel passenger cars in private names. As long as the vehicles are new and non-second-hand, and the relevant taxes and fees are paid in full, individuals can still import them according to the procedures.
