Used car exports are not a business that sells poor information, but a business that sells trust

Used car export is not a business that sells poor information, but a business that sells trust

When overseas buyers know better than you about the bottom price of domestic cars, the underlying logic of this business changes completely.

A Kyrgyzstan customer was sitting in his office in Bishkek, using translation software to open a China auction platform, and accurately told China exporters: What is the auction price of this ideal L7 in 2022? I have calculated your profit margin. Give me a reasonable price and we will do it for the long term. This is not a joke, this will be the daily export of used cars.

The dividend period of poor information will officially end soon.

1. Three fatal loopholes in poor information

The first flaw: accelerating transparency at the vehicle source end. The data interfaces, Mini programs, and even live car viewing on domestic mainstream used car auction platforms have made the cost of obtaining car source information close to zero. Buyers in the right-hand rudder market (Southeast Asia, Africa) directly compare the sources of vehicles in Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and Kunming; customers in the left-hand rudder market can see the inventory of Tianjin Port and Horgos by swiping their Douyin.

The second loophole: the intermediate link is compressed. Under the traditional model, a car from China to overseas end customers must go through at least four levels: domestic car dealers → export agents → destination country importers → local dealers. Now, dealers in destination countries skip the middle layer and directly connect with sources in China. Every layer is cut down, which means that the profit from information difference on one layer disappears.

The third loophole: the prisoner's dilemma of price competition. After information is transparent, price becomes the only explicit difference. If you don't quote the reserve price, the company next door will do so; if you don't let the profit, the customer will leave. The entire industry is experiencing a cruel round of price clearing-people with close thinking have so thin that they can't even withstand a shipping delay.

2. Trust is the only moat for the next stage

Poor information makes money you don't know, and the ceiling is the day when information is symmetrical. Trust earns money for which you believe I will be responsible-the threshold is extremely high, but once established, the compound interest effect is astonishing.

The trust system of the used car export industry consists of three nodes that cannot be skipped:

The first level: the car condition is true. This is not a slogan, but a systematic project. Right rudder assembly and left rudder, meter adjustment, and accident car renovation-every loss overseas buyers have suffered on China cars is overdrawing the credit of the entire industry. Exporters who can provide third-party vehicle inspection reports, support re-inspection in the destination country, and promise full refunds for discrepancies between vehicle conditions and descriptions will naturally have 15%-20% higher bargaining power than their peers. This is not a pricing strategy, this is a credit premium.

The second level: Delivery certainty. There is no skipping of shipping schedules, no errors in documents, and no blockage at the port of destination. It sounds like a basic skill, but in actual operation, how many orders were detained at the destination port due to incorrect bill of lading information? How many vehicles have been stranded at the port for two months due to export license delays? The credit created by a timely, accurate and barrier-free delivery is worth a hundred low quotes.

The third level: the after-sales mechanism. This is the real watershed. If the car is sold, who will take care of it if something goes wrong? Who is responsible for parts damage? Where is the claim channel? The attitude of most exporters is that they are not responsible for shipping goods offshore-this is the one-time model of thinking. And those players who set up cooperative after-sales outlets in destination countries, promise free maintenance during the warranty period, and establish pre-warehouse parts of parts are turning their export business from one-time sales to re-purchase business year after year.

3. Re-purchase is the profit code for used car exports

A lot of people don't get it right: it costs five to eight times as much to develop a new customer as it does to maintain an old one. In the second-hand car export industry, which has low frequency, high unit price and high trust threshold, this multiple will only be higher.

An old customer who has established a trust relationship does not need to repeat the vehicle inspection process, renegotiate payment terms, and worry about payment security_transaction friction costs are reduced by more than 60%. More importantly, old customers will bring referrals. In overseas Chinese business districts and local dealer networks, the efficiency of word-of-mouth communication far exceeds any online promotion.

The data speaks directly: Industry research shows that exporters with repurchase customers accounting for more than 40% have an average gross profit margin of 8 - 12 percentage points higher than the pure new customer model. This is not because repurchase customers do not bargain, but because trust reduces transaction costs of the entire chain, saving profits.

4. How to build a replicable trust system

Trust cannot rely solely on the founder's character and personal relationship. Trust that can be scaled must be based on a replicable and verifiable system:

Standardization of vehicle inspection: Each vehicle is equipped with traceable third-party inspection reports, standardized vehicle condition videos are taken and archived, and a vehicle condition database is established.

Logistics visualization: From domestic shipment to destination port delivery, each node pushes real-time status to customers. Delay is not terrible, opacity is terrible.

After-sales contractual: Clarify the scope of warranty, response timeliness, and compensation standards, write them into the contract, and implement them according to the terms. The spirit of contract is the common language of cross-cultural trust.

Customer assets: Establish a CRM system to record each customer's transaction history, preferred model models, and credit rating, so that the trust relationship does not rely on the personal memory of individual sales.

conclusion

On the track where used cars are exported, businesses with poor information have been wiped out by the Internet and information equality. There are only two types of players left: those who are getting deeper and deeper in the quagmire of price wars, with profits too thin to cover any accident; the other who are turning every transaction into a trust node, using the compound interest effect of repurchase to build real business barriers.

If you choose the right direction, it is only a matter of time.
