In the first half of 2026, Algeria has leapt to become the 10th largest market for China's automobile exports, with a total of 143012 imported cars from China, a net increase of 100382 vehicles compared with the same period last year. Buyers in North Africa increased by 61.6% year-on-year in the past two Canton Fair sessions, and intentional orders for automobiles from Algeria car importers exceeded US$1 billion at a time.

In addition to data, we interviewed a number of dealers and China automobile exporters who have opened stores in Algeria to restore the most authentic sales market for everyone.
Can you briefly analyze Algeria's automobile market and supply structure?
The core contradiction in the Algeria automobile market is the mismatch between the pace of supply and consumption habits-there are many vehicles arriving at the port, but arriving at the port does not mean that they can pick up the car. Customs clearance certification, foreign exchange approval, port congestion and other aspects are stuck at each other, resulting in a large number of inventory cards that cannot be turned into existing vehicles in the port; and end consumers have long lost their patience and only accept existing vehicles and not futures. Whoever can take the lead in opening up the chain of localized production or direct supply of existing vehicles will be able to take the largest share of the market with a population of 48 million.
What brand and price range cars sell better in Algeria?
Chery, Geely, Trumpchi, MG, Volkswagen, Jianghuai, etc. are mainstream hot-selling China brands in Algeria; Geely Emgrand, Chery Ariza 5, Binyue and other models with US$7000 - 9000 have sold very much in the Algeria automobile market.
What is the current status of China car dealer stores in Algeria? What are the current challenges?
At this stage, it is generally difficult for regular 4S stores of local China brands to obtain official vehicle import quotas. The normal vehicle import channels are blocked, and the supply of new vehicles in stores is difficult to guarantee. The long-term shortage of goods has continued to put pressure on offline distribution channel operations. At the same time, differentiated import channels have emerged in the market: various traders use personal passport channels to import large quantities of complete vehicles without corporate entities 'declarations, diverting market vehicle sources and further squeezing the living space of formally authorized dealers.
Nowadays, a large number of China car dealers are coming to Algeria for inspection. Will this blue ocean of the market soon turn red?
Not in the short term, but an unavoidable reality is that wherever China car companies go, price wars will follow. This has almost become the "genetic inertia" of China cars going abroad: the intensity of competition in the domestic market is rare in the world. Once China brands that are accustomed to hand-to-hand combat collectively target the same new market, using cost performance to open the way and using price to exchange shares is almost a path that will be replicated. Algeria is no exception. The influx of a large number of car dealers is itself a prelude to a price war.
Although the sales of China cars in Algeria are rising, there are still many problems: complete vehicles are easy to sell and parts are difficult to import. Algeria has set high entry thresholds for the import of auto parts, and the certification process is cumbersome and the standards are opaque, resulting in a large number of China parts being blocked out and the after-sales system is difficult to implement. At the same time, the industry is also facing poor connection between supply and demand, high compliance risks, and scattered supply chains; the phenomenon of "internalization and externalization" is becoming increasingly serious, and China car companies and car dealers are coming to fight price wars and other deep pain points.

The Automobile Export Co-creation Alliance, which is committed to helping China car dealers enter the global market, is exploring the feasibility of holding overseas auto shows in Algeria. Interested companies and car dealers are welcome to contact us and participate in preliminary research and discussions.
