According to data released by the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Resources of Korea on January 15, 2026, South Korea's automobile exports in 2025 reached US$72 billion, a record high.

This figure increased by 1.7% from US$70.8 billion in 2024 and was also higher than the record of US$70.9 billion set in 2023, marking the third consecutive year that South Korea's automobile exports exceeded the US$70 billion mark.

Although South Korea's automobile industry faces an unfavorable export environment such as U.S. tariff measures in 2025, it will still achieve growth. Among them, rising export demand for environmentally friendly vehicles (including electric vehicles, hydrogen energy vehicles and hybrid vehicles) and used cars has become the main driving factor.

Specifically, South Korea's exports of environmentally friendly vehicles will increase by 11% year-on-year to US$25.8 billion in 2025. Among them, exports of hybrid vehicles surged by 30% to US$14.8 billion, setting a single record; exports of used cars surged by 75.1% year-on-year to US$8.87 billion, also setting a new historical high.

Data from the same period shows that South Korea's domestic automobile production will reach 4.1 million units in 2025, exceeding 4 million units for the third consecutive year; domestic automobile sales increased by 3.3% year-on-year to 1.68 million units, including 1.36 million land brand cars and 320,000 imported cars. Domestic sales of environmentally friendly vehicles increased by 25% to 813,000 units, accounting for nearly half of total domestic sales.

South Korea's Ministry of Industry, Trade and Resources said that in view of the still uncertain global trade environment, the government will continue to promote maintaining the momentum of automobile exports in 2026 and enhance the basic competitiveness of the country's automobile industry in the field of future travel.
