2. Automobile market situation

1. Tajikistan's domestic automobile industry is developing slowly, and automobiles mainly rely on imports. Regions such as Europe, South Korea and Japan are Tajikistan's main passenger car import areas. China is an important importer of commercial vehicles in Tajikistan. In recent years, Tajikistan has actively promoted the development of the new energy vehicle industry. In the first nine months of 2024, Tajikistan imported more than 8700 electric vehicles, an increase of nearly 5400 vehicles compared with the whole year of 2023.

2. China brands such as BYD, Zero Run, and Weimar have become the main imported electric vehicle brands in Tajikistan. At present, electric vehicles in Tajikistan are still in their initial development stage, with high prices and imperfect supporting charging piles. In order to accelerate the development of electric vehicles, Tajikistan will exempt electric vehicles, electric buses, and trolleybuses from 10-year import tariffs starting from October 2022, and will cooperate with China to build factories, improve charging piles, and promote the localized production of electric vehicles.

Tajikistan mainly imposes tariffs of US$25 -100 on imported used cars.
