According to reports from AFP, The New York Times and other foreign media on the 16th, Canadian Prime Minister Carney, who is visiting China, said that Canada will import 49,000 China electric vehicles at preferential tariff rates.

Carney told reporters on the 16th:"Canada has agreed to allow up to 49,000 China electric vehicles to enter the Canadian market, applying a 6.1% most-favored-nation tariff rate... This has returned to the level before the trade friction."

The New York Times said Canada will reduce tariffs on some China electric vehicles, a major policy shift announced by Canadian Prime Minister Carney during a "landmark" visit to Beijing. Previously, in 2024, at the request of the Biden administration, Canada imposed a 100% tariff on China electric vehicles.
