On the same day, the Fourth Session of the 14th National People's Congress invited Wang Yi to answer questions from Chinese and foreign journalists on issues related to "China's foreign policy and foreign relations." A reporter asked that this year marks the 70th anniversary of the opening of diplomatic relations between China and Africa and the Year of People-to-People Exchanges between China and Africa. In this special year, what new developments and new highlights will be in China-Africa relations?

Wang Yi said that over the past 70 years, China-Africa friendship has withstood the test of the international situation and demonstrated strong vitality. China's foreign minister insists that he must visit Africa for his first visit in the New Year. This practice has been adhered to for 36 years. It has been consistent, rain or shine, and has become a spirit and belief in China's diplomacy.

"When I visited Ethiopia earlier this year, people recalled the moving scene of Premier Zhou Enlai's visit to Africa." Wang Yi said that when he arrived in Tanzania, the good story of China's aid in building the Tanzania-Zambia Railway is still widely circulated. Many young China engineering and technicians have sacrificed their precious lives for it and slept on that piece of land. It can be said that China-Africa friendship has been passed down from generation to generation, heart-to-heart, and achieved through blood and sweat.

Wang Yi pointed out that China-Africa relations will usher in a series of new developments this year, and suggested focusing on three aspects. First, new steps will be taken in building a China-Africa community with a shared future. China will receive visits from many African leaders in 2026, strengthen mutual support as all-weather partners, and write a new story of a shared destiny. Second, China will fully implement zero tariffs on non-100% tariff items on May 1. Third, the "China-Africa Year of People-to-People Exchanges" has begun, and nearly 600 exciting exchange activities will be held during the year.
